Bummed By The Boss

We were watching the Catherine Tate show yesterday (17th February 2009) and one of her characters mentioned a web site called bummedbytheboss.co.uk.  We typed it in and nothing happened so we thought we'd register it -- just to see how many sad people like us type it into their browsers.  Since the series is being repeated everywhere we figured the logs could be quite interesting in terms of the countries the visitors come from.  So welcome to the Bummed By The Boss Logs Analysis Project; we have no idea what to expect from it so keep watching this space.  We have no expectations other than we think we'll get visitors - how many and where from we have no idea!

Geordie Georgie

The character in the show who provided the impetus to registering the domain name was Geordie Georgie and it's doubly appropriate as we live in the North East of England!

She is constantly raising money for weird good causes and doing it in bizarre ways (like dragging a Boeing 747 from Whitley Bay to Tynemouth using only B roads).  At some point in her conversations she will say "If you don't believe me check the web site at .....".  One of our favourites whilst she was raising money for obsessive compulsives was www.christivelefttheironon.co.uk/noihavent/yesihave.

The Logs Project

The reason this site exists is to see how many people try visiting the site as a result of watching the show.  Because the domain is broadcast in the television show (which we assume is shown around the world) we can assume that the site will get hits no matter what we do.  We want to see if there is a pattern to the visits - do we get more hits when the series is repeated?  Do people type in the URL whilst watching the show - can we see that spike in the logs on a minute by minute basis?  Could we predict which countries the show is being shown in?  Is it just English speakers who type in the address?  Are the addresses shown in foreign language subtitles?  Do people outside the UK care?

We hope that these questions and many more will be answered by analysing our log files and we present them here for you to follow.  They are accessible via your browser and we update them every night at midnight G.M.T.
